About The Catalyst
The Catalyst is a not-for-profit society registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961. The whole range of activities that it is involved in is based in the village of Amlasole, a hilly tribal village in the district of Jhargram (erstwhile Paschim Medinipur) bordering the state of Jharkhand.

Overall Health and hygiene improvement
Washing hands and wearing slippers have been made mandatory and specialist from Kolkata are brought periodically to Amlasole for health check – as a result the general health has improved from what it had been 14 years ago.
Education for the children of Amlasole
Students in classes I to IV study Bengali, English and Mathematics only, students in crèche just play.
Training of tribal people of Amlasole for self-sustenance
Tailoring, food-processing for ladies only; Bike-repairing, technique in modern agriculture, poultry farming for the adult males; animal husbandry or both ladies and adult males (from 2014 to 2019)
Child welfare
Sanitary toilets for the staff and the students are there since 2011, for the children from the most backward families there is a hostel for special care since 2014. Students are taken for excursions (to Bakkhali, Digha, Kolkata) so that they can enjoy learning.
